How it works

A New Model for the Production of Magnesium Minerals

The MareMag LIFE project, entitled "Innovative marine magnesium minerals for safe, sustainable, and circular chemical production" (LIFE23-ENV-IT-MareMag LIFE), was created to demonstrate a novel approach to producing magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)2). The project, co-funded by the European Union's LIFE program, will employ a process powered exclusively by renewable energy and residual brine from salt pans, without the use of additional chemicals.

Where it is born

MareMag Life is rooted in the efforts and achievements of the SEArcularMINE project. The successes achieved during SEArcularMINE inspired and shaped MareMag Life, an initiative that continues along the same path, aiming for a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future.

Goals

Through a sustainable and circular process, MareMag LIFE aims to transform the magnesium minerals sector and contribute to a greener and more resilient economy.

A positive impact on the Environment and Society

MareMag LIFE contributes to the fight against climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting the sustainable use of natural resources.

News on the project

The MareMag LIFE project

The MareMag LIFE project aims to recover valuable minerals from the bittern derived from salt production through innovative purification, adsorption, crystallization, and concentration processes. These technologies enable the valorization of a seasalt side-stream, transforming it into useful resources for various industrial sectors.
